I have experienced some problems on different machines when trying to 
compile kernels etc. The error I have got is an internal compiler error
(No. 11 I think) and usually happens when calling the linker or the 
preprocessor. The FAQ for gcc on linux says that this problem has been 
reported by a number of poeple and appears to be a timing error. I found
I could solve it by either increasing the wait states for the system or 
doing a compile with the machine set to slow spped (e.g. not turbo). 
On the two systems I have encountered this problem (using gcc 2.7.0 and
2.7.2 one on a pentium and one on one of those strange 5x86 (cyrix?) machines
and linux 1.2.13) I found that once I compiled the kernel at a slow speed 
it was possible to then compile at full speed once the new kernel was 
installed. I have also has this problem when attempting to compile large 
programs which use many libraries (shared) but the problem would not 
occur if attempting to compile the same programe with static libraries.

Hope this is of some help, but you really need to give more details if you
hope to get a solution - the exact error message would be a great help!
