X and The Diamond Stealth 24VLB - Help!

Hi

I have a Diamond Stealth 24VLB with 1 Meg of DRAM with a ViewSonic 15.
For the past 3.5 hours I have been trying to get X-windows to work
but to no avail. I follow the instructions given in the infoMagic Linux
Quickstart manual, and everything seems to work fine. However when
I type startx a list of info comes up (like XF86S3....etc) then there
is a pause and I get 4 to 5 lines saying there is an error. I am a complete
neophyte and would appreciate some help! At the start they say make sure
that /usr/X11R6/bin is in your path, a path list is given but its not there
I don't know how to add it to my path, this maybe my problem, but then I have
no clues.

(I have read the Howto's and various other docs, but they haven't helped me much)

If there is someone who can help me I would appreciate it.

Thanks
