I couldn't get a safe looking kernel happening with 1.3.20 on my machine, but that probably had nothing to do with the SB16 PNP. I'll try again with 1.3.59 soon, but the aidecd will still be the ticket until a later production version of the kernel and slackware happens. I've got a bigger problem under Win95 and DOS. I've got a PCI motherboard with 2 PCI IDE ports, so I'm trying to use them. I have the CD plugged into the primary as master (I'm SCSI otherwise), and disable the 2nd IDE in the BIOS. The SB16 IDE is as welcome as a turd in the punch. It tags along following behind the other IDE interfaces. W95 recognises the CD, but when I reboot into DOS, it gets confused. The DOSSTART.BAT file has all the appropriate settings in it (I/O address, IRQ) when I look at it in W95, but when I reboot into DOS, something has *edited* those settings to something completely inappropriate (like the tertiary or quarternary IDE). I can fudge it by write-protecting the DOSSTART.BAT, but really - is this neccessary? Things are better behaved when I take out the SB16, which may become permanent if it keeps this crap up. Personally, if you have motherboard IDE, I'd avoid the SB16 PNP IDE. cya Craig.
