[emailed as well] In article <DM3Fy6.JsM@hkuxb.hku.hk>, lpwong@dragon.cs.hku.hk (Wooh! You need to duplicate your entire /usr tree onto the new drive. First, amount the new drive into some convenient location, such as /mnt: mount -t <type> /dev/?d?? /mnt Then do the following to completely duplicate the directory tree: (cd /usr; tar cf - . ) | (cd /mnt; tar xvf -) The effect is to run tar twice in a pipe, the sending end creating an archive into the pipe starting at /usr, and the receiver grabbing data from the pipe and unpacking it into /mnt. Do this when logged in as root (or su'd), of course. Add mounting of /usr to /etc/fstab. init S to enter single user mode. Unmount the partition from /mnt. cd / ; mv usr usr.old ; mkdir usr ; sync; sync Reboot the system. You should now have that partition mounted on /usr, with the old contents placed in /usr.old (which you can junk, backup, or whatever at your convenience). -- David Nugent: davidn@blaze.net.au, davidn@unique.blaze.net.au Unix/Linux/DOS/Win/Os2 Microsystem Technical Support [FOR HIRE!] http://www.blaze.net.au/~davidn
