HI LINUXERS

I post this article up in hope some linux guru read this and be able to
help me out...

I have a linux box for the last year or so and everything run real
cool...until one day when i reboot and log back into linux it complains
something like

KERNEL PANIC...VFS CANNOT MOUNT ROOT FS 03:41

I'm not that is the exact error message but i'm very sure it's something
very close to it...anyway i thought my lilo stuffed up so i boot it from
floppy and reinstall lilo etc..but no luck...

so i scrabbed the whole linux and reinstalled linux...after
the installtion i reboot and boot back into linux ok..
then when i came to recompile the keernel with the following command

make config; make dep; make clean; make zlilo

and reboot and boot back to linux ..same errors popped up and it happened
like that every single time...(i had done about 4 re-installtions) and
now desperate for some expert advice or help..

What is going on ? is my hard drive stuffed?
Is my boot sector on /dev/hda1 stuffed , by the way linux is on my second
drive /dev/hdb1..

I would appreciate any advices or help i get..

Thanks

ps: the thing boot ok from boot floppy disk (ie boot disk created by
slackware during the installation process)
and excuse for any mis-typo cos i posted this up in a hurry

Thanks again
