See what VESA screen resolutions are supported under Windows. I.e. see
if you can get 1024x768 non-interlace. If not then you need 800x600@56Hz,
and 1024x768@43Hz-interlace. Otherwise you can probably run 800x600@70
and 1024x768@60Hz. The "NI" in your model number leads me to believe
that it will support the higher refresh rates. Either copy a monitor
config that supports the same refresh rate, or do the calculations for
the paramters based on the 1024x768@60Hz resolution. If you need more help
then send me some email.

You probably don't have enough swap space. Your RAM + swap comes to 24Meg.
I would suggest 32 Meg (combined) as a minimum for X stuff, 48 as a good
value to do some reasonable work under X. Your message probably resulted
from an application you ran while X was up. Some people suggest to use
twice your RAM size as swap. This is good advice for performance reasons.
It isn't a good suggestion if all you want to do is make the apps run
and don't care if it's a bit slow.

I have 16 Meg of RAM and I find that under normal use about 2 or 3 Meg
gets swapped out. However when I run Netscape, or XV, they can cause 10
or more Megs to be swapped out. Start several Netscape sessions... well
you get the idea.

As the guy below says, use a swap file for the extra swap. That way you can
adjust it as needed. Also perfornace isn't a problem as it's only going
to be used when the swap partition overflows. 200Meg for root depends on
the size or your installation. I made a 350Meg root for my RedHat install,
300 for RedHat and 50 spare for expansion.
