Hi. I was hoping to get some help in configuring my modem with Linux.
I have a small problem. I'm able to set parameters in 'kermit' and connect
to the modem port /dev/cua1. Then, once connected to the port, I can
issue modem commands and I can hear (And I mean only Hear) the modem's
response. For some reason, kermit doesn't display what I'm typing and the
modem's response on the screen.
I can say something like
atdt
but I will not see it echo on the screen, but I will hear the modem
pick up the phone line and will also hear the dial tone off the modem's
speaker.
I have a hanes compatible modem 14.4k a 486DX-100MZ with 16MB of ram, and
I only have a mouse connected to the machine (besides the usual stuff disks,
console etc..). Mouse is in /dev/ttyS0. I don't understand why is it that
this happens..
Any help is highly appreciated..
thanks..

Following is the output of 'strace -p <kermitpid>' so that you can see
this problem as it happens..
For some reason, after kermit forks() it starts to write to fd 4 and not
fd 1 (stdout). I figure this is part of the problem I can't see anything
on the screen.
Here is the contents of my .kermrc file.
set line /dev/cua1
set speed 2400
set modem hayes
set file type bin
set file name lit
set rec pack 1000
set send pack 1000
set window 5
set prompt Linux Kermit>
Here is the output of 'strace' on the kermit process.
