We'll return to bgerseko@powerup.com.au and All's
discussion of Networking Linux with DOS - Suggested s/w?

bg> Well, any half-decent network card will come with a TCP/IP packet
bg> driver for DOS. If you're wanting to use TCP/IP under Windows 3.1, the
bg> most popular package is Trumpet Winsock, which you should be able to
bg> find on just about any bbs, or archie (I think??) There is also a
 bg> Microsoft TCP/IP 32 - which is a 32-bit TCP/IP implementation for
 bg> Windows for Workgroups.

I already have Trumpet Winsock, so Windows stuff will be fine. Just
need to add the packet driver when I get the LAN cards. :-)

bg> If you're looking at using the Linux box as a fileserver, you could
bg> try setting up NFS on it, and using a shareware NFS client on your DOS
bg> machines called XFS - which you can find on archie.

bg> As for telnet and ftp - the NCSA suite is readily available and
 bg> functional.

Thanks. I'll look these up and start collecting s/w for the project.
NFS will be the way to go, since I hope to have ample diskspace on the
Linux box, but the DOS machine will be a little short. Besides, some of
the s/w will need to access files left in the DOS partition by the
server. I'm basically doing this, but with Intersvr (yuk!) ATM, so I
(1) can't leave my drive accessible at all times, and (2) I've had
reliability problems with it...

... Each computer thinks that anything outside of itself is remote.
