Rather than explain it all here (and probably incompletely), go grab
the linux installation-howto.  You should be able to ftp it from
sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/docs/howto/ or any of the aussie mirrors
(like ftp.monash.edu.au or ftp.dstc.edu.au).
