Hello all !!!

Sorry if there is a FAQ for this lying around somewhere, but I've had a quick
look around and haven't been able to find one. If there is, someone point me in
the right direction ....

I'm just starting to play around with Unix and X-Windows on our SGI Indigo 2 at
uni, where I'm doing my PhD, and I'm looking into the possibility of installing
Linux on my PC at home. As it says in the subject line, I'm a Newbie at this,
and I'm after any and all information and advice that I can get before taking
the plunge myself.

Some background ....

My System : Intel DX-66 (PCI bus) with 8 Mb ram (may expand this soon though)
	    1 x 240 meg HDD and 1 x 400 meg HDD (both EIDE)
	    3 1/2 and 5 1/4 Floppy Drives, 2 X CD-Rom Drive

Current Operating system : Windows 95

Some questions ....

1. Can I install Linux under Windows 95 ???? Alternatively, can it happily
   co-exist with Win 95 ???
(I have heard reports that they don't get along well at all)

2. Is my Hardware sufficient to get a reasonably speedy UNIX / X-Windows system
   set-up ???

3. What is the best way to go ???? ie. which is the best/easiest/most recent
   shareware Linux setup to get???

4. How much Hard disk space is required??? Do I need to reformat or repartition
a hard disk ???(or can it be run with a minimal installation from CD-Rom??)

5. Am I making any sense ???

I'll stop now .... :)

As I said, any advice would be appreciated, especially from people who have
actually done or attempted something like this before on their own systems. I
don't really want to spend too much time setting things up, and if it is going
to prove too difficult then I won't bother :)

I can be contacted either at my e-mail address above, or alternatively also at
   Andrew.Round@med.monash.edu.au

Thanks for your time and in advance for any help you can give ....

Andrew
