Problems with formating scsi hard drive

I am running a 386 with an Adaptec 15x22 controller. I have a scsi CD-ROM
and a scsi Hitachi hard drive. There are no problem when booting up. All
devices are identified OK. I am able to run fdisk to set up partitions.
My problem is that when I run setup I can not format the partitions. I
keep getting some type of timeout error when it is part way through
formating the hard drive and it locks up the cd-rom.

Can anyone help pleas :-(
