Using "chat" to connect at high speed

G'day people.

I have a problem with using "chat" that comeswith the PPP package.
I can connect, start ppp etc. That's all fine.
Problem is I keep connecting at 9600 instead of 28800.

When I run minicom with the same modem init string, hey it connects at the
28800. From there, I can connect with PPP.

I've tried using setserial to get higher speed (spd_vhi, baud_base
115200), but to no avail.

Anyone had any luck with their 28800 modem using "chat" to connect?

Regards,
Johnny.
