Ok a few people have requested a summary of the replies I got regarding
HTML editors for Linux. Here they are together with few of the
opinions/locations expressed:

xhtml Linux homeboy page www.tenn.com

Xemacs in HTML mode.

ASHE or Phoenix compiled under Linux, pretty good.

tkwww - HTML in a quasi WYSIWYG mode

tkHTML - Excellent HTML editor for Linux

asWedit - text but is a professional web editor
	  search from http://www.telstra.com.au/cgi-bin/vsl-front

vi :-) or your other favourite editor

Other Tips

I might have missed one or two but these seems to be the main ones people
recommended. The general consensus also seemed to be that the best way to
learn HTML was to use a plain old text editor.

Thanks to all who replied

Tony
