Hi,
I just installed a newish version of slackware linux on my system
(can't recall version numbers. Just this week from one of the sites)
I installed disks sets, A, X, and ntex (slackware compatible). These
are all fairly current versions (as far as I am aware).
ntex, and I would suspect most of my oldish software (chipmunk
, and other circuit applications),requires the libc.so.4
libraries be present.
Take the n-tex distribution...It requires libc.so.4, because it sais so
when I try to run it...("cannot find libc....."). The library version
also need to have a minor version >=6...
Now to my surprise, the slackware distribution does
not supply this library but supplies the upgraded versions
libc.so.5 and so on. In order to fix this I grabbed the
libc.so.4 libraries from one of the linux sites,
and attempted to install it manually, this did not work as the libraries
I had were of the wrong minor version.
(4.3.3 for memory as that was all that was avaliable)
Maybe I missed out on it somehow, but my installation didn't complain,
and didn't say "you have a missing file". I may have got a
dud disk, but then again?
My question is..
"What to I have to do get get this library onto my system, and, if most
of the old(?) software requires it (big assumption), why is it not
provided?"
Thanks in advance
Andrew
