Umm,
I ended up rebooting anyway -
but not before sending the sync command, and kicking Robert off the system!
This also did not return a prompt.
calling shutdown did not return a prompt either:
I never got to the halt message,
but I took a gamble and reset the machine.
It came up OK, although it did fsck for several minutes.
Seems to be fine now.
MORAL:
Do not remove media with out unmounting first!!!
I was lucky this time, I'll never make that mistake again ;)
I was not aware that an incorrectly mounted floppy could be so dangerous!
Is there a better way or a softer option?
bye
Rachel
