People choose Operating Systems for several reasons

- they like it 
- the company/their friends use it
- they need to run a Program that only runs on that OS
- they want to run a particular computer and it only runs a particular OS

If you want to run Office 95 or any of the big-name Wordprocessors/databases 
etc, you'll go with Win95 or WinNT

If you want a FREE OS, or you like Unix, or you want to run Multi-USER 
(multiple screens) or you want to run multiple comms (like Zip) then you'll 
look at Linux.

Yes. The machine is fast enough, but you might want to look at running more 
memory.
