Writing to Dos partitions mounted from Linux

Greetings,

I've just set up a 486 box running linux to use as an NFS server for a couple
of Dos partitions on it. Unfortunately everything in the dos partitions
appears as being owned by root and group root and permissions set as

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1051 Oct 8 01:02 autoexec.bat

I can change the owner and group id's of all files in the partition by
using uid=xxx or gid=xxx options in /etc/fstab so it ends up looking like

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root other 1051 Oct 8 01:02 autoexec.bat

But I can't work out how to give write permission to the group or other so
that anyone other than root can write to them via NFS or directly.

I've tried chmod'ing the mount point to 777 (a+rwx) before mounting the partitions
but things just get changed when I perform the mount.

Any help would be appreciated as the whole thing is next to useless without
the ability to write to the dos partitions.

Oh, yeah, answers to these groups or e-mail is fine. I'll summarise if
appropriate.

Thanks in advance,

Chris :)
