Admittedly the manufacturer will often give you the drivers, and you should yell at them for not giving you the Linux drivers. The great advantage is that on Linux, even if they do not, you can often get the device working. Unlike in Windows, if the manufacturer forgets to give you the Vista driver, you are SHOL.
