I have this curious event with frame buffers invoked under grub (vga=???). Kernek is 2.6.18, Initially, it would only accept a terminal type specifications, such as vga=0f00 or vga=0f07 which were variations of 80x60 chars, etc. Then it accepted something like vga=771, which si more like 1024x768 and 224 bits. Now it has gone back to the character terminal format. Head scratching.
