I burned the ISO originally to a TDK CD-R80. > Is tha the kind of CD that Puppy can write back to? Sorry, your CD-R80. isn't suitable. Choose a disk with the letters RW (Read Write) Its also recommended to verify the .iso and to burn at the lowest available speed. > Does this mean that I don't "install" the customised OS but just > let it copy at shutdown? > Using the CDR you already have, changes can be saved to the computer's hard disk drive regardless of having installed Puppy, or not Using a RW disk means your changes can be saved regardless of installing to HDD, or not. In other words, 'installation' is not necessary for saving changes in either case. However, depending on computing skills and personal requirements, installation is usually the popular option. The Puppy Linux option to avoid installation yet still save changes to the CDRW/DVDRW can be a godsend to novices unwilling to risk damaging existing data on the computer before learning the basics of Hard Disk Drive partitioning.
