I wasted about 7 days installing a new-purchased HP Laser Printer on my Linux box. When I finally got over that hurdle, the paper feed of the printer did not work properly. Back to Square One! So I am upping the ante and looking at a Brother HL 2140 printer. Its specification includes the following: Compatibility GDI Printer Driver for Windows 2000/ 2003srvr/ XP/ XP64/ Vista Brother Laser Driver for Mac OS X 10.2.4 or greater ***GDI Printer Driver for Linux***. So what is a "GDI Printer Driver"? And how do I persuade my version of "cups" to recognise that model? Will the "GDI Printer Driver" come to the party? Again, all advice will be welcome.
