Anybody here had any luck getting the Virgin Broadband USB stick to work under Linux? Particularly Mandriva 2010?

Also in Windows it shows a dial up sequence of *91#; nowhere to put this in any of the boxes in Linux. Mandriva 2010.PowerPack ($$) I was hoping to avoid the drones at Virgin - provided I can actually get a human; only to hear "we don't support Linux" usual sort of rubbish.

I understand your frustration. At work there is a colleague who goes online with his laptop running Ubuntu. His modem is Huawei and he had no problems setting it up. I tried to plug his modem into my laptop running Mandriva 2010 and experienced same issues as you. Today I tried to resurrect my uncle's laptop with dead Windows by using a PCLinuxOS Live CD. Everything worked except his Huawei modem. As PCLOS is Mandriva based I wasn't surprised too much. In this case it seems that some distros do a better job than the others.

Which reminds me, I recently read one of the English Linux magazines (forget which one) which had the usual free cd, and they were stating that for GSM users, a "pleasant surprise was in store". Maybe one day we can all get a "pleasant surprise"? >

Thanks for the help!

I bought what I thought was a 169 off ebay, turned out to be a 220, the info I had worked OK with Fedora. Zebee
