Check out this web site for a list of linux compatible printers and drivers.

http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting

Generally , the HP printers are always compatible because they have the HP
Linux Imaging Project (HPLIP) and they have their own linux drivers and
web page.

http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/about.html

I have an older HP PSC 1610 printer , scanner , copier and it works well
with Fedora.

I'd recommend Brother printers. They actually provide linux drivers for
their printers/scanners.
