Hi,

Could someone please tell me how does Fedora compared with Ubuntu?

I noticed that Ubuntu seems to have all the drivers you need but with
Fedora, you need to dig around to get the hardware working especially
stuff to do with WiFi.

As with all these things, some distributions work better with some
hardware than others. Ubuntu might work better with one sytem and worse
with another.

It's definitely not true that there's a general problem with WiFi with
Fedora. I installed Fedora 10 on my fairly recent Lenovo Thinkpad nearly
6 months ago and everything just worked. When i installed Fedora 9, 6
months before that, there were one or two things i had to tweak, but
still most things just worked (and the laptop model was very recent then).

I installed Ubunut 9.04 beta on the same laptop last week and it all
just works, too. There's no real difference between Ubuntu and Fedora -
apart from slightly different philosophies about certain system things
(which you're not likely to notice as a new user). There are a few
software packages that are available for Ubuntu that aren't available
for Fedora - and vice versa. There are one or two software-type things
that work better in one and one or two that work better in the other.

In terms of how they work when they're installed, you're unlikely to
notice the difference. The best bet is to download a live CD version of
whichever one you fancy and see if your hardware works with it. If not,
try the other one. But there's a very good chance that it will work with
either (depending on what it is, of course).

One thing that Ubuntu's got going for it, for someone in your situation,
is that you can download a live CD and try it out - and then use that CD
to do a full installation with, downloading extra packages over the
internet as you install. F10 doesn't make that quite so easy i don't
think. Maybe F11 will...

There isnt a big difference between Ubuntu and Fedora. I've run both
fedora 9 and 10 on my desktop pc (new high end pc).
the only thing i had to do was install out of the box was nvidia
drivers
I had problems with desktop effects; stupid things happen to programs
open in my second moniter, like losing the bar across the top of the
window with minimise maximise and close on it (not sure what its
called). So i installed KDE and ran one monitor
Also not sure if this is the same with Ubuntu but i couldnt get some
packages to run until i did a full system update.

I Upgrade from Fedora 9 to Fedora 10 it work just pick up my Wireless Router
no trouble at all. But KPPP (dial up)would not worked no matter what it
did, it would connect but I could not download from my ISP. So removed it
(Fedora 10 and went back to Fedora 9 KPPP worked straight away after I set
it up. Never liked Ubuntu nope.
