Many posters at comp.os.os2.misc say that "withdrawal" of the OS/2
from the market down not mean the end of "support". IBM will still
support OS/2 till 31 Dec 2006 or is it 2004. Between 2004 & 2006 there
will still be some kind of support. Several years ago IBM announced
that OS/2 would be supported for another 7 years.

I noticed someone said a few days ago that some of the source code
has been quietly placed somewhere for public access, but I can't find it
again. There is a limit what IBM can release because of copyright
agreements with M$. If that is confirmed OS/2 may metamorphose like
Netscape to Mozilla or become another "linux". Certainly there's a lot
of talented people out there who can do things with it. Their names
suggest they mainly come from Germany & Russia.
