I don't know about the rest of you, but I feel that IBM is missing the mark with their marketing efforts. On TV, the only commercial for OS/2 Warp I've seen shows two guys standing in front of a computer (the TV viewer sees the back of the monitor) jabbering about applications running simultaneously. If IBM is trying to win the MS-Windows market with this TV ad, IBM may fail miserably (unless the ad is supposed to trigger a feeling of intrigue that would motivate the viewer to go to the local software store and find out what all the "Warp" is about). I'm not knocking Warp (after all, I'm using it right now as I write this post). However, the Warp marketing seems to be preaching to the choir (those of us who have been OS/2 users and were eagerly awaiting Warp, are OS literate, etc.) and not the unconverted (those who insist on DOS/WIN, single-tasking, and non-OOUI). I have noticed that Warp TV ads run during Star Trek TNG and sports coverage. IBM may still be missing some of their audience. I watch The X-Files on a regular basis (not Star Trek TNG). MicroSoft has been advertising during X-File episodes. MS commercials show people of all ages, both genders, from different nations, all enteracting with MS products (which the TV viewer can see running on the computers). MS is not even tauting anything specific, but I do get a "friendlier" and more "connected" feeling to MS and what their products are about. I hope someone who is on the IBM marketing team sees this post. After reading the post, I hope they go watch the IBM and MS ads to compare notes and the impact of the message each of the IBM Warp and MS ads send. Furthermore, I hope IBM moves quickly to rectify the "nerd" image of the current Warp TV ads by replacing it with demonstrations of the interface (drag and drop), highlights of the Bonus Pack, etc. I think OS/2 is the best thing to happen to personal computers since the MacIntosh. Please IBM, don't lose the battle against MicroSoft because of ambiguous marketing.
