On TV, the only commercial for OS/2 Warp Well, in Australia, I haven't seen any Warp adds at all - there is a huge IBM campaign, but its Paul Reiser pushing PC hardware. The only other Australian adds I've seen have been from the mainframe division in 'The Australian'. There's been the standard blurb sent to their mailing list, but thats to hard-core OS/2 users. Not even having a display at the Melbourne computer show was just plain dumb (They seem to be the equivilant of 'Comdex's - held around once a year in each of 5 or 6 cities. Melbourne and Sydney hold the biggest ones.) The local IBM people seem to be ignoring OS/2, and assuming that the US advertising blitz will leak through to people here via imported magazines (for free, at least as far as IBM Australia are concerned). Its pretty obvious that country-by-country computing trends are driven by the actions of a few key people. I certainly can't see why Europeans would be _inherently_ more likely to want to buy OS/2 than Australians. Unfortunately, the actions (or lack of them) by a few people at IBM Australia seems to be turning the country into a Windows NT stronghold... Its probably the usual 5 or 10 year gap between Australia and the US - by 2004, IBM Australia will be a dynamic and vibrant organisation, adapting quickly to new ideas, instead of clinging onto tradition...
