ACS NSW AISIG - Artificial Intelligence - Monthly Meeting

Date: Wednesday 29th November 2000.

Time: 6:30pm till 8:00pm & dinner afterwards.

Topic: Quadruped Robots That Play Soccer

RoboCup is an international robot soccer competition whose aim
is to encourage advanced research in mobile robots. CSE has
entered teams in the Sony legged robot league for the 1999 comp-
etition in Stockholm and the 2000 competition in Melbourne. In
1999 we were runners up and in 2000 we blitzed the opposition to
easily win the championship. For more information see
 http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~robocup or
 http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~claude

This talk is an overview and technical presentation, explaining
how the robots were programmed. It will include colour slides,
video clips and a simulation to help illustrate the concepts.
We also propose to run a live soccer match with 4 robots on the
soccer field which will be set up in our lab next to the seminar
 room.

Speaker: Prof. Claude Sammut

Claude Sammut is Professor of Computer Science & Engineering at
UNSW and Head of the Artificial Intelligence Research Group. His
main research interests are in Machine Learning. He led the team
that won this yearοΏ½s Sony legged robot soccer league, RoboCup 2000

Scope of the Group:
to maintain and acquire knowledge about the changing focus of
leading edge research and technology transfer
