ANU Supercomputer Facility

Access to VPPp300 Supercomputer at ANU
                                 for
                Research staff and postgraduate students
                     at all Australian universities

The 28 Gigaflop VPP300 supercomputer at the ANU is amongst the most
powerful university-based computers in the world. The VPP is a
distributed memory system with 13 processors.

A substantial portion of the available resources are made available to
research staff and postgraduate students at all Australian universities
free of charge.

Successful projects will be granted sufficient resources to make
substantial progress in a major computationally-based research program,
typically 1000-3000 processor hours per year. Larger and smaller
proposals will also be entertained.

Allocations are made on a peer-review basis. Postgraduate students
should apply through their supervisors. Every effort will be made to
ensure that supported projects are given the necessary continuity to
complete theses and projects.

The ANU is particularly seeking to support internationally competitive
projects which can take advantage of the unique capacity of the VPP300
to tackle computationally demanding problems which are not feasible on
other systems available to researchers in Australia. Projects led by
external Principal Investigators in collaboration with ANU researchers
are particularly encouraged.
