ACS NSW AISIG - Artificial Intelligence - Monthly Meeting

Date: Wednesday 29th August 2001.

Time: 6:30pm till 8:00pm & dinner afterwards.

Topic: Designing and Modelling Autonomous Agents Systematically:
                     the Deep Behaviour Projection Framework.

In this talk we attempt to formally define various types of
behaviour-based agent architectures and encapsulate them in
a hierarchical framework. Then we present a new design
approach, Deep Behaviour Projection (DBP), aimed at multi-agent
systems that include an environment simulator and agents capable
of performing concurrent actions. The developed framework is
capable of capturing some desirable properties of situated and
tactical agents, such as robustness, real-time response and
adaptive coordination. In other words, it enables not only
reactive reasoning about immediate surroundings in localised
situations, but pro-active reasoning about composite goal-oriented
actions as well. The framework allows designers to experiment
with and discover new different strategies achieving given
 objectives.

Most recently, the DBP framework has been used for design and
development of a commercial multi-agent system for networked
multimedia appliances, and in the RoboCup Simulation domain.
