Well, I suppose "the people" have spoken. Apart from one (emailed)
message of support, it appears that nobody else agrees with my
sentiments.

I emphasise that I have nothing personal against this Vantone person, but
I am severely dissapointed to hear current attitudes of people currently
in cyberspace.

As a retired University professor, I am an extremely longtime user of the
Internet (ok, you might say I'm an old fogey), from way before the phrase
"Information SuperHighway" was coined. Back then there was quite an
active spirit of observing the unwritten laws of the Net. One of them was
that you didn't try to make quick bucks on the generosity of others -
that you didn't abuse the priviledge of "free access" to its massive
audience. If you wanted to advertise, you paid your money like everybody
else. You also didn't just constantly post questions in the technical
conferences asking for help, if you could, you'd ocassionally post
helpful replies to queries of others. Give and take.

From reading responses to my post, it appears that the attitude of the
people out there is that nobody cares if rules are broken or people taken
advantage of. The most important thing for the respondents of the thread
appears to be that they get a "good price" from these commercial
operators and nobody cares if they are flouting any "rules", written or
otherwise.

Very well, I suppose I will have to accept this situation and I will
speak no more on this subject. The majority have spoken and they have
said that the bottom line is all that matters, saving a few bucks is all
that is important and that nobody cares if people are only _taking_ from
the Internet but giving nothing back in return. Rules are obviously made
to be broken and if somebody is making a living from flouting these rules
then that's fine by them - as long as they're able to save a few bucks
themselves.

I'm quite sad to see the Net has now been taken over by people with such
a self centred attitude to things but so be it.

Garry
