Versions of Linux that support Sun Sparc hardware, etc.

Hello,

I'm looking at replacing SunOS on my Sparc LX gateway machine with Linux so
that I can take advantage of the multi-path PPP support. The reason behind
this move is that because of the type of equipment installed at the local
telephone exchange, I can't get a modem connection better than 26k4 bps, and
this is limiting the bandwidth of my single-modem PPP link.

So, I'm considering multi-path PPP as a cheap alternative to ISDN, since a
pair of links running in parallel at 26k4 bps would give me the equivalent
of a (theoretical) 53k bps link, and that's a huge improvement over 26k4
bps! To date I've been using Paul Mackerras's freeware PPP package with
SunOS 5.6, but he recently told me that he won't be implementing multi-path
PPP for SunOS/Solaris and is looking for someone to take over the
development and support work on the SunOS version, so I'm investigating
other approaches.

If I had enough programming experience I'd take on the role of SunOS port
maintainer... 8-)

Is anyone actually using Linux (either Debian or Redhat, or another
lesser-known version) on their Sparc machines with multi-path PPP enabled
and working?

Comments, etc. please...

Regards,

Craig.
