G'day all, As a complete neophyte when it comes to Unix systems, I have been unable to solve this problem: When there is a break in the network, which happens quite frequently, the network software eventually wakes up enough to say something along the lines of "network connection terminated". Then, when the wires are re-soldered or whatever ;-) and you can login again, it's quite common to find the following state of the host system: SunOS Release 4.1.3 (GENERIC) #3: Mon Jul 27 16:43:54 PDT 1992 [server] 1% ps PID TT STAT TIME COMMAND 14970 p0 S 0:00 -csh (csh) 14984 p0 R 0:00 ps 10481 p3 IW 0:00 -csh (csh) 11262 p3 IW 0:10 nn [server] 2% Note that in addition to the current job, there are two "IW" processes in the list from the involuntary termination of the earlier connection. What I would like to know is, is it possible to re-start the IW processes? I'm damned if I can find anything in such docs as I have available which tells me how to do it. In the specific case exampled above, you have to kill off the earlier processes before you can start nn again. (E.g. kill -9 10481 ) It would be nicer to just get the existing job running again. Can it be done? Thanks for your time. Cheers, Ian S. P.S. We are only receiving a very limited sample of news articles, so if you have a solution, an e-mail response would be appreciated. -- Ian Staples MS-Mail: staplesi@dpi.qld.gov.au c/- P.O.
