If you're using IGRP, you're obviously not using Bay Networks routers,
so I'm not sure why you posted to comp.dcom.sys.wellfleet ...

Are you referring to problems on the routers or on the workstations.
The router will be able to advertise the routes without much problem,
unless you have an extremely large table (like, for example, taking
full Internet Routes).
On the workstation side, it depends on the implementation, but yes, a
large table can sometimes cause problems. Note, however, that the
workstation's table wouldn't be any bigger than the router's table and
yet, the router has no problem dealing with such a large table. An
efficient workstation algorithm won't have any problems with a large
table either. (Again, though, something as large as the full Internet
tables are, in addition to being to large to deal with using RIP, could
cause even well-designed-kernals to ahve problems with a table that
big). As one data point, I have a SunOS 4.x machine with 4100 routing
table entries. (All static, but the kernel doesn't know the difference
between a static entry and a routed supplied entry either). It runs
just fine, and doesn't cause any substantial delay.
In any event, though, you can apply filters in the router to control
what gets advertised ... on many of my multi-homed segments, I only
advertise default, plus maybe one or two subnets. This should work
fine, and keep the workstation tables quite small.

I think you can probably find a gated for the sun, although I don't
know off hand where to look ... my preferred solution is to use RIP but
only advertise default plus, maybe, some routes where one of the
routers does in fact have a better route than the other.
