problem with longtable.sty

Hi

I have 4 rather long tables (700 rows each) which I need to typeset.
However the tables are quite narrow with only 4 columns and occupy
less than a quarter of the width of the page! Ideally I should like
to have four of them in each page so I can squeeze in the entire table
in about 4 pages. The longtable package doesn't support even the
two-column mode and thus prints the table over 16 pages. This is only
one of the 3 appendices of my thesis and I'd hate for it to be 64
pages long! I can of course, split the table up into bits manually
and typeset it that way. But is there a way I can do it with
longtable?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
