Hi, Can you gurus help me with a problem that I am trying to fix remotely with a couple of windows XP computers. We are using Thomson 530 modems (PPPoA DHCP NAT enabled) to connect DSL to a variety of computers but have struck a problem with a couple of XP machines in the past few days. On these the network adapter is set to obtain an IP address automatically but it is not accepting the 10.xxx. address from the modem. They seem to have an IP address fixed in to the OS that I can overide by fixing the address into the settings but as soon as I enable DHCP an IPCONFIG shows it has a 169. range address rather than the IP that the modem is delivering. The modem is working ok on a win2K computer so I know it is DHCP "servering" OK but it seems to have a problem wth the XP machines. I try to release and renew the IP address I get an error message about no adapters being in a state available to do this ( or words to that effect ). I tried to connect USB and replaced the PCI Ethernet adaptor with the same result. I think it may have something to do with APIPA but don't know where to look for the fix. None of the PC's seem to have network settings that are unusual but since I don't know what I am looking for ..... Is it a timing issue or does XP have a sneaky setting somwhere? Any thoughts of where to look will be most welcome. Thanks folks in advance. Col.
