Although my heart goes out to the victims of the QLD floods, I don't see why
Australia has to pay for their suffering totally. The NBN shouldn't be cast
aside by luddites like Abbott. If you want to live in a flood area that's
the risk YOU take and hopefully you pay the premium for flood damages too on
your insurance. Maybe that should be mandatory for future floods in known
affected areas.

Anything to get rid of the stupid Rudd/Gillard plan.

$40,000,000,000 plus? Look at Blighs Qld Health payroll system. Supposed to
cost $50,000,000, blew out to $70,000,000, now they say it's going to cost
$240,000,000 to fix!

The cost is too great. The government has no right to impose a "one size
fits all" NBN system on everyone. $40,000,000,000 on a system that can't
guarantee the speeds they're talking about for everyone - no thanks.

When is Abbott going to stop using the dead to further his agenda?

The unprincipled opportunist did the same thing with Labor's

Rudd and Gillard have killed a couple of hundred now.
They have killed more people than Australian servicemen killed in
Vietnam and Iraq.
So you may find that they have beaten those to conflicts.

503 killed in Vietnam alone.

Even allowing for your "couple of hundred" I think you'll find that
503 is greater than 200.

That's going a bit far. But people who choose to live in flood prone
areas and not insure should be required to sign a statutory declaration
to the effect that they won't winge about it if there's a flood, nor
ask for, nor even accept, any financial assistance.

But the government (state and local councils) have a lot to answer for.
Are we so short of land in Australia that we need to resort to building

Yet there often are. Grafton, whose levee held, is built just a few
kilometres north of higher groud. Most of Grantham's buildings seem to
have been placed at the lowest point available, needlessly occupying
fertile land, when there is higher ground within a kilometre.

The media have focussed on the flooded parts of Ipswich and Brisbane,
yet most of those towns have remained above water and only the
insistance on building on what was clearly a river flood plain has lead
to flooding of buildings.

When some towns were originally established, getting water from the
river to buildings situated on higher ground would have been a problem,
but that's no longer true, and some of the flooded areas have been built
up in relevatively recent times.

So a couple of hundred government sponsored deaths is not an issue for
you?

No wonder you vote Labor.

The party of Molesters, murderers and miscellaneous miscreants.

Then we should be spending $400,000,000,000 - nothing but the best.

Fact is, as with anything, there reaches a point when spending more isn't
worth the benefit.

$40,000,000,000 is a lot of money - it could build 20 hospitals. It could go
a long way to fixing traffic conjestion in Sydney, Melbourne and especially
Brisbane.

We keep hearing about (things like) how the NBN will aid medicine with
remote diagnoses. What's the point if your diagnoses says you must get to
hospital imediately, but you die in a a traffic jam in the abmbulance
because the roads are stuffed?

$40,000,000,000 so people can download movies, porn and play games faster -
no thanks.

I agree that the system needs fixing, but I object to the government shoving
a $40b one size fits all solution down my throat.

$10b tops, and I'll be on board.

Hey BringyaPiss,

You don't disagree that the Rudd Gillard Government kills people like
wars.

Why do you boost for them?

Plucking just the figures that suit Serge does not reflect the real
