Does anyone know the actual law on bait advertising or where I can find it?
I thought continually advertising products you intentionally had
insufficient stock to meet expected demand was illegal, and yet ALDI do it
*every* week and apparently get away with it.

Frankly I can't really see it helps them, since it must just piss more
people off than it actually attracts to buy other things.

Yep, at 9:30 AM I was told they all went to the 200 people lined up when the
shop opened. (Didn't say how many of those still missed out though)
Now WHY do people find it necessary to line up before the shop opens,
because EVERY week there is something ALDI advertise that they have NO
intention of stocking in sufficient numbers to meet the expected demand. How
do they continually get away with it? And why do they not think it pisses
off more people than it attracts? I quite like ALDI for some groceries, but
every time they piss me off with such tactics, I don't go back for ages!

Aldi obviously get a certain quantity of stock of tech items that are
either end of life (the distributor uses Aldi as a convenient "one-stop"
outlet to clear stock in one hit) or only available in limited numbers for
other reasons.

They sell what they have and then there is no more, usually anything like
this that Aldi have is available at a similar price at the usual cut-price
tech outlets, but the majority of Aldi customers don't seem to know this.

Some people have said just go an Aldi store the night before (near closing
time) as they put the stock out for the next day and they *might* just
sell you one then, otherwise realise that there will never be enough of
some items.

If people are going to continually put themselves through stress to
essentially "save" just a few dollars because they decide that they just
*must* have the Aldi bargain, then that is the price to pay for this big
saving.

They sell groceries and the deal offered usually can be equalled easily

  I doubt that's a consideration

Certainly that will drive the company over the edge :P

Yep, the "other" reason is to attract people to the store, i.e. bait
advertising.

Sometimes, but not often, and even then likely to be more expensive if you
include shipping costs. Just try and get a 1TB external hard drive with
ESATA for $79 for example. Probably anybody even advertising them for that
is even less reputable than ALDI, and certainly doesn't have a 60 day return
policy.

Hardly ever, most of their electronic items do not go on the floor stock at
all. Kept out back or behind the counters.

No argument, except I am still puzzled why the laws do not apply to some
companies. Airlines are even worse of course!

Would if everybody did the same. That's not likely of course.
Question remains, does it actually *increase* sales though. If not why
bother?

It does provide extra sales as can be evidenced in the reciepts

*Could* be if they went a few Thursdays with NO special sales items to see
if the "sales receipts" reduced, and then did vice versa to prove a
correlation.
Of course I'm not claiming there isn't, (just no proof either way atm) but
am amazed how stupid people are IF it IS actually the case.

It is having seen it work elsewhere
