Clean Up Australia, one of Australia's greatest environmental
initiatives, is now running a blog to keep you updated with current
issues and tips to manage your impact on the environment. Of course it
also links to the official website where you can register for this
year's event.

With few exceptions, cleaning up is more about neatness and
appearance, and much less about the environment.

As my physics professsor said in a lecture 35 years ago, in
general the most enviromentally responsible thing you can do
with garbage is to just discard it where you've finished with
it. Not that I do, but he's right.

Spot on. Ignoring my fetish for old IT technology, most of our garbage
leaves the house in a bucket to get dumped into the cubic metre compos
bin. Lucky to have a plastic shopping bag full of other items each week.

Now, if I could find a cheap, easy way of shredding all the tree based
product that arrives, mostly via the mail box, it too would join the
compost bins.

The most environmentally sensible thing we can do is ban consumerism and
live like the Aborigines, Native American Indians and African bushmen do.

*THEY* are the true environmentalists, not over privileged politically
correct doucebags like Al Gore.
