Here are the matches scheduled for the forthcoming weekend in the Australian Football League: Round 11 (home team always listed first) -------- 30th May Melbourne v. Carlton (Waverley Park) Richmond v. Brisbane Bears Fitzroy v. Collingwood Geelong v. St.Kilda <-- note no space between 'St.' and 'Kilda' 31st May Essendon v. Sydney Footscray v. Hawthorn Adelaide v. North Melbourne <-- must be 'North', not 'Nth' or 'N.' Bye: West Coast This week was indeed fairly clear cut, with quite high percentages picking all but Collingwood & Melbourne. In effect, this led to even results -- a lot of people getting 4 or 5, but no-one making the big 7 from 7. It would seem that next week will be the most difficult round yet: one to REALLY test your skill (or chance), with a lot of evenly-positioned teams meeting. Well, that's about all that comes to mind for this week, except to welcome those who just tipped for the first time: see how you fare in Round 11! Also, for those who scrutinize every facet of the game before making their picks, you may wish to hold off until Wednesday. There is a State of Origin game on Tuesday night (MCG, 7:30 EST) between the Vics and WA; and with a number of stars in the teams, injuries could affect Saturday's lineups. ADMINIS-TRIVIA: i) A healthy number managed to pick "St. Kilda" instead of "St.Kilda" (i.e. put in an unwanted space). Left as such, the computer marks you wrong. I always check common things like this, so don't panic (too much) if you've made a mistake. Having said that, don't yell at me if I fail to pick up your own individual errors!!!! :-) ii) Next week or the week after, I am thinking of splitting the cumulative results list into two parts, one for those who have tipped less than two weeks, and one for the remainder. The purpose of this would be to give a fairer indication of the standings, and stop a "one-week wonder" from tipping in one or two rounds, getting 7 from 7, and sitting on top of the list thenceforth. Note that it would be a fluid thing: new tippers would not be confined to the former list, but could move onto the "real" list by continuing to tip for two weeks, having therefore met the "qualification". The only disadvantage that I can think of in this is a *slight* increase in complexity. Do people think that this should/should not be done? If you have any violent arguments against, please mail me... to justin@tasman, *NOT* the tipping address. Thanks for your input. How to play. ----------- The instructions are simple -- send Email to u906586@bruny.cc.utas.edu.au with your AFL tips in the body of the message. Enclose your selections by lines of THREE asterisks on their own (see example below). Make sure you use the team's proper name (e.g. Essendon, not Bombers or Dons) but don't worry about precise spelling: only the first four letters are looked at, case insensitive. You are identified by your Email address -- only one entry per address per week is allowed. Entries should be received by 5 pm Friday afternoons AEST (AEST = GMT + 1000). You don't have to play each & every week, but if you do post selections, the software expects you to tip every game. Each Monday or Tuesday I will post the results from Saturday, the games scheduled for the following week, and some basic instructions for 'newies'. Example tips (my actual ones for Round 11): *** Carlton (can't trust Melbourne) Richmond (scared the dogs, and who wouldn't pick Bris to lose?) Collingwood Geelong (unless Ablett & co get worn out vs WA) Essendon (are only going to scrape home) Hawthorn North Melbourne (the upset) *** Any enquiries should be directed to justin@tasman.cc.utas.edu.au and not to the address for tips displayed above. Have fun.
