Australian subset of comp.mail.maps

Is there any desire for me to post the Australian subset of the UUCP
Mapping Project maps in aus.map. They already appear in comp.mail.maps.
I guess the only reason would be if there were sites wanting to
receive the Australian information without all of the other maps in
comp.mail.maps. For example, someone with a full feed of aus.*, but
not all of comp.*. Is there anyone out there in this situation? If
so, please mail me at the address above.

Why would anybody want these maps, anyway? As well as a very minimal
collection of routing information used by UUCP sites (mostly outside
Australia) the maps also contain information about many domains and
hosts in Australia. Generally, my intention is to reduce the number
of host entries, especially where there is nothing remarkable about
the hosts concerned, and replace these by more informative domain
entries. Who cares about the names of individual workstations in a
lab, or in a department, if all the information (other than the
hostname) is identical for all the other hosts too?

Sources I've used for the information published include older versions
of the maps, the Domain Name service used by Internet software,
MHSNet/ACSNet routing tables, AARNet resource information, word of
mouth, etc.

The old maps which appeared in aus.map were slightly different from
the ones in comp.mail.maps and were designed for use by people at
ACSNet sites. I don't propose to do this munging anymore, since (I
believe) the majority of traffic within Australia no longer uses
SunIII software for its transport. Both AARNet and MHSNet grok names
ending with .au, so the distinction is now mostly moot.

If there is no interest in my posting this information here, I would
suggest the newsgroup be removed. I mean, when was the article before
this one posted?

Oh, yes. If your domain or host is missing and you feel it ought to
be present, please submit an entry. (I can send you a copy of the
README from comp.mail.maps if you don't have access to that group.)
