Or is |> that an option on the next model? The router in question (a cisco IGS/R) has only 1 Mb of memory. You need at least 4.5 Mb of memory to "netboot" the executable system image. The configuration of the router (IP addresses, routing, all that good stuff) is saved in a separate 32K NVM. What you might be refering to is the "Flash" EPROM option which is now available, which allows a system image to be booted, then saved into a Flash memory card. This is a pay-more-money option that is not available on this particular model, but is available on the CSC/3 processor and CSC/4 processor based cisco models. Since the problem that we are experiencing (the router shuts down its ethernet interface due to a lack of memory buffers of a certain size due to a bug in the cisco code) only effects IGS routers, we are planning to replace the problem router with a CSC/3 based router as soon as practicable (but it turns out this may be a few days which is why the ROMs are beeing shipped from the US). -- Peter Elford, e-mail: P.Elford@aarnet.edu.au Network Co-ordinator phone: +61 6 249 3542 Australian Academic Research Network fax: +61 6 249 1369 c/o, Computer Services Centre pager: +61 6 245 3035 Australian National University post: GPO Box 1142 Canberra, AUSTRALIA Canberra ACT 2601 ps.
