Here is the message I received from the postmaster at NSFnet-relay.
Last weekened the nsfnet-relay authorisation database
failed to rebuild. This was, we believe, a side-effect
of the problems we had experienced with the relay machines
earlier in the week. The backlog of mail had filled the
disks and so the nightly table script(s) failed. This
should now have been rectified, but you will have received
an "authorisation failure" for your mail(s). This should be
ignored.
Please accept my apologies for this inconvenience. We are
taking steps to ensure that this does not re-occur.
