26th May 2000 EFA is pleased to announce the appointment of Irene Graham to the role of Executive Director. As many of you would know, Irene has been an EFA Board Member and Secretary and has also carried out the roles of Membership Co-ordinator and Administration Officer, having joined EFA in 1995. As with all EFA Board positions, Irene's roles have been undertaken on a voluntary, spare-time basis. The ED role is a paid position in which Irene will work four days per week. Obviously in this role she will be able to bring significant resources to bear on matters of concern to EFA. Irene has established a reputation for quality research and investigation in the area of censorship, both online and offline. Her personal website devoted to censorship is widely acknowledged as the main reference site on this topic in Australia. The board considers that Irene's research skills, combined with her equally impressive administrative abilities, ideally suit her for the role of Executive Director. For further background information about Irene see: http://www.efa.org.au/AboutEFA/IG.html You may recall that an appointment of Peter Upton as Executive Director was announced in late March. Unfortunately, only a few weeks after this announcement, Peter found that he would be unable to spend the agreed time in carrying out the role, due to unforeseen personal circumstances, and he reluctantly withdrew. We hope you will join the board in welcoming Irene to this new position and in sharing our view that EFA's interests will be strongly advanced with the appointment. Irene can be reached via the board list at <board@efa.org.au> or directly to <igraham@efa.org.au> Kimberley Heitman, Chair of EFA on behalf of the board Electronic Frontiers Australia http://www.efa.org.au
