I have just starte having a problem trying to connect to google.com. I
end up at google.com.au

Is anyone else having this problem?

I trust the Australian Gov. has not deliberately set this up so they
can monitor what people are searching for....

This happened when I was in NZ a couple of weeks ago and I thought it was

Now its happening here and I don't like it one bit.

Why is there a problem of redirecting the google web page to another
Web page with Australian Search ( Optional)

searching at www.google.com IP Number 216.239.35.100
searching at www.google.com.au IP Number 216.239.37.100
You get exactly the same results on both
except www.google.com.au has an option to search in Australia if needed

To use the original Googles go to
http://www.google.com/en

the Aussie Mirror is
www.google.com.au

Regards

Because my first reaction was that is wasn't optional. Now that I realise it
is, it is ok :)

What I find funny is that using Opera, this redirect doesn't happen,
but it does with IE.

Another reason not to use IE.

Maybe it`s because you might be looking for something local, rather than
overseas

Yep. I`d like to look at local (aussie sites). rather than overseas ones.

Utterly mindless silly paranoia. Take your medication.

Just because google have chosen to have a
.au domain says sweet fuck all about the govt.

Even someone as stupid as you must have noticed
that yahoo got a .au domain years ago now.

The redirect isn't javascript it's a 302 moved HTTP response. Works in
my Opera. I think they were busy going live with it on Thursday night
because I had a few issues (Mozilla google search not working) but now
they've ironed out all of the bugs and it's working fine...
