SAGE-AU was formed to advance the profession of System Administration by
raising awareness of the need for System Administrators, and educating
System Administrators in technical as well as professional issues. We
aim to promote interaction between professional System Administrators
within Australia as well as internationally.

        meetings, visitors should become members)

Topic:  From Reactive to Proactive: changing the support paradigm.

Over worked, huge job queue, users complaining and you're in the hot
seat?  
It's easy to fall into the trap of reactive job scheduling.  This paper 
discusses the problems inherent with a reactive approach to systems 
administration and support, examining how a small IT team is managing 
the change to a proactive strategy.

Russell Noble is the Computer Systems Manager in the Department of 
Psychology, University of Wollongong.  His IT experience includes 
three years applications development and support with BHP IT in the 
mainframe environment, and 4 years with the University where he has 
undertaken development and support projects on UNIX, Windows, 
Macintosh and Novell environments.

        To get New South Wales System Managers, PC administrators, 
        System Programmers & Network Administrators together.
        To lend a sympathetic ear to the plight of System Support.
