Dog-proofing fences

Would anyone have any advice on how to dog-proof a lapped and capped
fence. We will be getting a dog shortly, and want to avoid the
possibility of the dog being able to dig under the fence. In most
places, the fence sits on a retaining wall, so a dog cannot dig under.
However there are a couple of places where the fence crosses garden
where it would be currently quite a simple matter.
I've posted to both aus.gardens and aus.pets as I want both points
of view cosidered (ie. the dog AND the garden).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers
Marc
