****** That may be, but what they are also doing is putting off a lot of
caring pet owners that have been getting animals from them for years!
Unless peple start to baulk at the escalating prices, they will continue to
skyrocket. Next year they will be injecting all the anumules with microchips
because it's a new beaut idea and the price will go up another fifty
bucks....and more dogs will join the queue on death row because even more of
the population can't afford society dogs!

******** I'd be most surprised if they didn't, but that IS only speculation!
One of the problems would be finding anyone that would take on an older dog!
Even if you are getting a pup, you are still looking at the trauma of losing a
treasured friend 10 or 12 years down the track. I would think that only an
unusally kind person would be inclined to take on an eight or nine year old
dog from the society, particularly at the prices they are charging today!

********* Some sort of co-operative populated by older people with a "I'll
look after yours and you look after mine if either of us is run over by a bus"
arrangement could be a possibility, but I haven't thought much about it and it
might not be practical!
I know that it is a concern to me and I keep fairly large stocks of dry
food and water available for my pets just in case I should forget to get up
some morning! This leads to rather fat dogs! Like you lyle, I have every
intention of outliving the lot of them, but you never know!
