Anybody who listens to the channel 5 repeater will be aware of the frequent requests for people to move off the channel and how the requests are usually not heard because the offenders are operating simplex on channel 35. One way to fix that would be if the repeater could be made to TX on 35. So the emergency operator transmits on 5 and is relayed on 35 so they can be heard. Of course normal 35 in 5 out would need to be retained and the ACMA would need to approve. Would it be practical?

Technically it would require some interesting and complex mods to the repeaters. Also expensive. Second, can you imagine the reaction to an emergency person telling idiots to get off the channel on 35? Most common would be a mouthful of abuse followed by the assertion that 'we can talk where the fuck we want!' What you are trying here is the same as I tried during my 3 years as a bus driver, educating the ineducable. And trust me, it doesn't work. Kate vk4xyl - resident cynic

Hello Barry, I think ACMA would say a big no to that. As a monitor / Licence for many years the problem could be fixed if the supply people give out the correct information. I have had people that we have caught that have said that XYZ store told us to use this channel as it id a quite one that does not get a lot of use. I had a couple on bikes with a trailer on that got hand held with head sets from a place in Sydney and they were told to use ch 35. They travelled down to Hobart with out any problems,I guess because of all the crape on the mainland that they being only low power stations no one had heard them. From my location I could here them and tracked them down and had a friendly chat with them, they were shocked to be told what ch 35 was used for,so they went o a simplex channel and the end of the problem. They were very happy that I tracked them down. Another problem is the truckies come down from ch 40 and work there way down to ch35 as the ones between 40 and 35 are local repeaters in Tassie. When you say to them about it they say,no one else has said any thing up North, that's because no one monitor any more. The day ACMA made it a Class Licence that was the end of UHF CB. As a licence if we had a problem with 5/35 ACMA did not want know about it as they were looking at other problems with government services,we paid the licence fee the same as any one else under Apparatus Licence. That could happen though I did recently hear an operator successfully and peacefully move some people, and the I often hear operators trying. >What you are trying here is the same as I tried during my 3 years as a >bus driver, educating the ineducable.
