I will have to support Mark. I have had a look at the particular book and the illustration. Despite the indication that it is a "natural" colour photo, I would have to question this as it appears to have been hand tinted. For those who wish to check it out, the book is "The Australian Book of Trains", by J H & W D Martin, published by Angus & Robertson in 1947 and the colour plate, described as - The "Newcastle Flyer" on Hawkesbury Bridge, natural colour photo by Don Martin) is facing page 226. The book is thought to be the first "real" publication on Australian railways. This particular photograph shows 3801 to be quite a dark gray, whilst other black and white photos suggest that the gray is considerably lighter. Hunslet
